Sur la tĂȘte

In a previous post I told you about the working girls during the second world war and the use of snoods to keep their hair safe at work but still look glamorous! We recreated these in an array of colours and they are stunning!
So... how are we expanding further on this? Hats, that's how! We have three to start with... all in the 'Lucille' style in different variations, and they're available on our Etsy store of course!

Meet Marilyn

We have a new dress style to show you called Marilyn, ooh isn't she gorgeous?
This one here is made from two-tone purple polyester in a UK size 16. She's perfect for a swinging 1940s evening!
You can buy her from our Etsy shop, or if you want another colour or size, let us know! We'd be happy to oblige!
Ciaou for now!

Bon Voyage

I finished creating this beautiful 'Bon Voyage' bag a few days ago and I can't believe it sold within two hours of posting on Etsy!
Many thanks to 'dylsmum' for your purchase!
Due to its swift sale, I will be making some more of these in different variations, so watch this space!

Hotsy totsy snoods!

From today you can see Forties Frocks' first snoods available on their Etsy shop.
They are fantastic for that effortless vintage 1940's look.
You don't have to worry about spending hours trying to get the perfect forties curls in your locks, just two rolls or a faux fringe in the front and pin in the snood as shown.
Snoods became popular and essential during the war as women filled the vacancies in factories normally held by men who were called up to fight. The government wanted to deter women from wearing their hair down due to health and safety as they were now operating heavy and dangerous machinery. They even got the silver screen starlets to fashion up-dos, to encourage the working women to be safe at work.
What are you waiting for? Take a look!

Flapperdashery

Flapperdashery has the most amazing Etsy shop!
I came across it a couple of days ago through a link in one of the forums at Etsy.
My favourite item that she has to offer is one of her 'Flapper Art Mannequins' (featured left).
Over 450 painted Flapper Art Mannequins have been painted and sold all over the world!
Each mannequin is painted by hand and each one unique, so you know your mannequin will be the only one of its kind in the world!
So go see for yourself, on Etsy, and drop by her Myspace for videos, pictures, music and all things flapper!

Our first Etsy sale!

December 22nd 2009 was a great day! We got our first sale from a lovely lady from Washington! She bought a custom-made version of our 'Polly' dress in red.

We still have a ready to wear version of 'Polly' (pictured left) in a UK size 12 available on our Etsy shop.
This style has been a favourite, and received many lovely comments, so it's no wonder it was the first to go!
We look forward to more sales (hopefully) through Etsy in the future, and more conversations with fellow Etsians via the forums.
It truely is an inspirational place, and there is a lot to be learnt from these creative people!

Just starting out!

Forties Frocks first started in June 2009.

My mum and I have always had a passion for 1940's fashion, so why not share it with others?
We started by making a few garments for our daughter/grand-daughter, Hannah to model and show off at East Kirkby Airshow in August 2009.
We were very happy to receive our first order for a custom-made 'Judy' dress.
We hope to attend more events in 2010, and will keep you updated.
You can also keep up to date with Forties Frocks on facebook, twitter, or myspace.
Last but certainly not least, please feel free to take a look at some of our garments at our Etsy shop!
